Food
For an average sized rabbit, you should feed them around 3/4 a cup of rabbit pellets a day. Smaller breeds should generally have 1/2 a cup but it can vary, depending on the rabbit. Along with the pellets, it is recommended that you give your rabbit at least 1/4 a cup of vegetables a day. They like carrots, grass, kale and other different types of vegetables and even bananas! All these are good for them as long as they don't get too much. There are different percentages of rabbit pellets. It depends on what food stores you go to. Shar kare has 12%, 16% and 18% and Top Shelf Foods has 17% also. If your rabbit is on the skinnier side, you would want to give them a higher percentage. We feed our pregnant rabbits 18% and the rest get 16%. If your rabbit is shedding or has a bad coat, you can give them black oil sunflower seeds. Make sure they don't get too much though because sunflower seeds can cause them to gain weight.
Cleaning
Cages need to be cleaned at least once every 2 weeks. We find that the boys may need to be cleaned more often. Remember, if it smells bad to you, they have to live in it. As well, water dishes and food bowls should be rinsed out every couple of weeks as well or if they look dirty.
Rabbits need their nails trimmed every two weeks to once a month. You can cut them with human nail clippers or pet ones from the store. If you are unsure how to cut your rabbits nails, we offer a nail cutting service, or contact a vet.
If your rabbit gets something in its fur use a washcloth to wash it out or cut it out with scissors (very carefully). Baths are not good for rabbits because they can get cold if they are not dried properly.

Sexing Rabbits
An important thing to know when owning rabbits, is what sex you have. It is helpful if your rabbit is going to be around other rabbits or you are getting another rabbit; this can be important in preventing unwanted pregnancies.
First, you need to gently flip your rabbit over. If you are unable to flip your rabbit, lay it on its back and have someone else hold it steady.
